Kindergarten students learned how we can visit places online and how to stay safe when on the internet. Our safety rules are: 1. Ask your parent or teacher before you go online 2. Only talk to people that you know 3. Just go to websites that are just right for you. Students also learned which information should be kept private when on the internet (name, address, phone number, family names, passwords, etc.) and how to create usernames that do not include private information.
First Grade students learned how to evaluate websites and determine if they were "green light," "yellow light," or "red light" websites. They understand "green" websites are those that are right for them; "yellow" means caution-talk to an adult before going on the website; and "red" - not appropriate for a child. We also discussed how everyone leaves a "digital footprint" when they go online and the types of information that are private and should never be shared on the internet. Finally, children have an understanding of cyberbullying and how it is very important to tell an adult if someone says something while they are online that makes them feel sad, angry or scared.
