Margaret Hillert is a great author for beginning readers who are learning their sight words. These books are familiar stories such as Little Red Riding Hood, The Little Red Hen and others. They have wonderful picture clues that help the child understand the story, but the author uses repetitive sight words to tell the story. Emergent readers generally feel great success when reading these books and the sight words are reinforced.
All students have been reminded that books should always stay in their backpacks inside a plastic bag. We ask that students leave their books in their backpack so that they always know where they are. The plastic bag takes care of leaky water bottles that may be in the backpack.
Kindergarten students are learning good book care habits. This week we will be reading What Happened to Marion's Book by Brook Berg. We will reinforce the ideas of the proper ways to take care of library books. Children will be allowed to bring their library books home this week.
