Kindergarten - the focus was on developing independence in "logging on" to the computer using the student's number and navigating using the mouse (left click) and the arrow keys on the keyboard. The students loved the educational activities. You are encouraged to reinforce these skills at home. The lessons are on the Technology website and can be accessed at http://wfetech.weebly.com/kindergarten.html.
1st Grade - Our first area of focus was that of independently "logging on" to the computer using the student's number and navigating using the mouse. Since this was a refresher for most students, we were quickly able to move to the skills of adding favorites to the student's individual account and an introduction to MS Word and basic keyboarding skills. All lessons can be accessed through the Technology Website available at http://wfetech.weebly.com/. Just hover over First Grade and First Quarter to access individual lessons.
2nd Grade - Students spent the majority of their time working on Keyboarding skills during the months of October and November. In 4th grade students are expected to "demonstrate sufficient command of keyboarding skills to type a minimum of one page in a single sitting" (Common Core ELA Stds - Production and Distribution of Writing CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.4.6). We begin to prepare students for this task in 2nd grade. It is amazing to see the skill and dexterity of these students when learning to keyboard. Children can practice these skills using the following lesson: http://wfetech.weebly.com/typing-stamina-building-2-6.html.
